Please consider maximum Congressional funding for Interstate 69 in Kentucky in the new highways bill. Western Kentucky is well served by the four-lane parkway system, but industry/business site locators are conditioned to Interstate highway access. I-69 brings that opportunity to the region. Congressman Whitfield has made a large request in the highways bill for I-69.

In Kentucky, I-69 would make extensive use of the Pennyrile, Western Kentucky and Purchase parkways as well as a portion of I-24. The parkways require upgrading but that is much less expensive than building new highways. I-69 will require a new Ohio River bridge just to the east of Henderson.

Transportation access always rates highly on business and industry lists of important factors when considering where to locate a facility. Of course, an Interstate is also important to business and industry already located in Western Kentucky.

Kentucky has recently stepped up its I-69 efforts by funding a scoping study to determine upgrade costs from Eddyville to Fulton and the inclusion of three interchange rebuilds on parkways along the corridor in the state road plan. Please consider federal funding to help move I-69 forward.

Thank you for your support for the development of Interstate 69 through Western Kentucky. Your advocacy for this project from your spot in the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee is important as the new reauthorization bill is considered by Congress during the next several weeks.
	
	Congressman Whitfield has made a $644 million request for I-69 in the bill because he knows its importance to his district. The positive impact of this corridor will be felt throughout the region, including in areas like Owensboro where the Audubon Parkway is already designated as a future I-69 spur.
	
	In Kentucky, the average per capita income for counties with direct Interstate access is one-third higher than counties without an Interstate. I-69 will connect middle America from north to south. It serves 17 of the top 25 seaports, 13 inland waterway ports and 15 of the top 25 cargo airports. Every major railroad connects to the corridor. Completion will increase transportation efficiency and reduce fuel consumption, travel time and costs, while facilitating trade, providing intermodal connectivity, relieving congestion and promoting economic development.
